Rule 7.230 — Appellate Review

(a) Review. Review of orders and judgments of the courts governed by these rules shall be prosecuted in accordance with the Florida Rules of Appellate Procedure.

(b) Party Not Represented by an Attorney. A non-attorney may not represent a business entity in appellate proceedings.

This rule specifies how to appeal a decision from a small claims court. It clarifies that the simple Small Claims Rules no longer apply; instead, the appeal must follow the formal and complex **Florida Rules of Appellate Procedure**. Critically, while a non-lawyer owner or employee can represent their business in the small claims trial itself, they **cannot** represent the business on appeal. An attorney is required for all appellate proceedings involving a business entity.
